    Franklin Battlefield

The weather here in north Alabama has been perfect, just in time for our fall break. We planned to just spend one day taking a quick trip somewhere just for the day and decided to go north 2 hours to Franklin, TN. My husband is a history fan, and I love being outdoors (I’m learning to also love history!) so walking around civil war battlefields has been something we really enjoy together. We’ve been to Gettysburg, Fredericksburg and Shiloh so far, so we got to add Franklin to the list this week. Anytime we can take a couple of our dogs, get outside together, explore a new place, and learn…

    Staying local for Fall Break

Fall is my favorite time to travel as a family. I am about 275% more patient with everyone when it is not 95° outside. We talked several months ago about traveling somewhere fun together the second week of October since our children were scheduled to be out of school for the entire week. But something came up at work for my husband, so we decided to stay local. We spent the first half of the week sleeping in, watching Halloween movies, baking cookies, playing outside, picking out Halloween costumes, making books, making slime with neighbors, and really enjoying the down time. We decided yesterday to visit Isom’s Orchard in Athens,…

Back to School Organization – Part 3

It’s Monday again, and we had a wonderful weekend celebrating the main man in our house’s birthday! I hope your weekend was filled with exactly what you looked forward to all week. Mine sure was! Today I’m sharing some basic organization that is working for our family right now. Inside our main living area, we have the perfect space for a “drop area”. I would love a mud room/laundry room that could serve this purpose, but that’s not the layout of our home. I wanted to have a space where the kids’ backpacks and shoes are easily accessible without looking like a tornado came through at all times. This has…

Back to School Organization – Part 2

After a quite productive weekend, I’m excited to share with you how our Back to School morning routine has gotten a bit easier with these food storage ideas. Our older two children take their lunches from home every day, as well as a snack, and they are making their own lunches each morning. In order to make that easy and quick for them (and me) I have their food options portioned out and ready to go in the refrigerator and pantry where they can easily reach. We have the third basket because our little guy does not like to feel left out, and he will hopefully transition right into this…

Back to School organization – Part 1

We LOVED our summer break this year! It was filled with just the right amount of travel, fun, sun, swimming, family time and relaxation. There was absolutely no routine and barely any expectations for our children, which is a wonderful way to spend the summer! That all came to a screeching halt the first week of August when all three of them started school. I’ll admit that I do enjoy routines and schedules, and since I don’t really have a Type A personality (at all), I am able to be flexible when it’s necessary. I am significantly more productive when I have a list, and sometimes I can go ’round…

    Guest Room Update

I have always loved having a guest room. It’s just not an option in every home, but we have been fortunate to have a specific room just for guests in both of our homes. In the Big Ole Brick House, our guest room is in the basement. It is a good sized room, but since most of our family also brings two or three small children along {we looove our nieces and nephews!} I wanted the space to be used efficiently. Here is what the room looked like a few weeks ago: I wanted to freshen the paint and add a little character to the walls, so here it is…

    What’s Your Calling?

At certain times in our lives, we are pulled in one direction or another. Maybe at 18, we feel that a particular college is what suits us best, or at least that we’ll enjoy time there. Maybe since you were very young you just knew you wanted to be a teacher. I know nurses that have said it is their calling, and they were phenomenal. I met an engineer at NASA who told me she knew that she wanted to work there and just made sure she did what she needed to in order to make that happen. It was her calling. I never felt that way about a career.…

    Don’t Dodge Dollywood

Spring is coming! Spring is coming! And that means Spring Break will be here before we know it. I always look forward to traveling with our family, but it certainly requires forethought and a great deal of planning ahead. Our Spring Break is less than eight weeks away, so it’s time to get some fun cooked up! Today, I present to you an option besides the beach or Disney World. Don’t dodge Dollywood! I’m sharing our personal experiences with Dollywood and why we have chosen it over Disney in the past. Let me start by saying that I am not sponsored by Dollywood in any way, these are just my…

    Kroger ClickList

I am here to rave about how much I love Kroger ClickList! This is the service that a few Kroger stores in the Huntsville area offer in which you place an online order, choose a pick-up time, and a friendly Kroger employee brings the groceries and loads them into your car. As of today, there are only three locations that offer this service in the Huntsville area. But, it is Ah-Mazing! Midtown Marketplace: 4579 Wall Triana Hwy in Madison Watercress Kroger: 7090 Highway 72 W near Providence Huntsville Kroger: 6070 Moores Mill Rd.   In case you are not accustomed to shopping at Kroger already, here are some ways that…

    Embrace this stage.

I have missed blogging and writing, so I’m just going to dive right in. Let’s talk about being content! So hard, right? Something that I really have been trying to focus on a lot lately is contentment. I never genuinely thought that this was something I struggled with or gave much thought to, honestly, until we decided to not have any more children. For seven years, I was all about babies. Ohhh, my sweet, sweet squishy babies. I always dreamed of being a mom, felt like it was very natural for me, and since I was little I would have told you all I wanted to be was a mommy.…
